Several years ago a cluster of Brenda Crowther’s analysands were undergoing the experience of Kundalini. Their experiences included dreams, visions and very unusual so-called concrete or physical experiences. Some of the latter were visible to other people, spilling out from the inwardly psychic into perceived affect or sensation. All were composed of the elements of air, earth, fire and water, and additionally the fifth element, which the alchemists call ether.
In this program, Ms. Crowther discusses these Kundalini experiences, with reference to the orienting research contained in The Psychology of Kundalini Yoga: Notes of the Seminar Given in 1932 by C.G. Jung (Princeton, 1996).
Brenda Crowther trained as a Jungian Analyst at The Guild of Analytical Psychology in London and is a member of the International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP). After a dream that took her to Switzerland, she graduated from the Research and Training Centre for Depth Psychology according to C.G. Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz. She has been appointed a Fellow of the Guild of Pastoral Psychology in England, awarded for her long and steady contribution to Jungian psychology in the UK.
Jung’s Red Book is a deep interest, and her seminars on this, for the Jung Club in London, lasted seven years. She continues to present on this topic, as well as others throughout the UK, Germany, Switzerland and the United States. She has published many articles, was editor of Harvest: International Journal for Jungian Studies for many years, and at present works on a book. Before beginning her analytical training, she studied painting and art history, and worked as an artist and teacher. A dream opened her into Jungian training, just as a dream took her to France to live. She lives in Foix, at the foot of the Pyrenees in southwest France, affectionately known as “Mary Magdalene Country.”
Learning objectives:
- Define the symbolic and psychological nature of Kundalini as discussed in the recorded seminars of C G Jung.
- Explain how an eastern discipline crosses over into western individuals through the archetypal power inherent in Kundalini.
- Explain how a western analyst can deal with the rising of Kundalini.
