At the end of the nineteenth century, a number of figures set about to establish a new discipline of scientific psychotherapy. This talk will present a new account of these historic developments, then situate and explore Jung’s psychotherapy within this environment. By reconstructing the events taking place in Jung’s work and by drawing on first hand accounts, Jungian historian, Sonu Shamdasani will investigate a new perspective on the history of Jung’s practice.

Sonu Shamdasaniis an historian of psychology, and a research associate at the Wellcome Centre for the History of Medicine at University College London. He is the author of several books, includingJung and the Making of Modern Psychology: The Dream of a Scienceand the editor of several books, including Jung’s seminar,The Psychology of Kundalini Yoga. He is currently editing Jung’sRed Bookunder the auspices of the Philemon Foundation.
