SUMMARY:Piercing the Vale: The Middle Way of Eschenbach’s Parzival
DESCRIPTION:\nThis program will be recorded and made available publicly on
our&nbsp\;YouTube channel. You do not need to have registered to view the
video.\n\n\n\nThis talk explores Wolfram von Eschenbach’s Parzival\, wri
tten in the early 13th century\, as a profound symbolic narrative of psych
ological and spiritual transformation. Parzival is not only a personal sto
ry of a knight’s quest\, but it is also a collective dream - a mythologi
cal effort by the collective to restore the feminine dimension of the soul
\, of God\, and of the world.&nbsp\; We will examine how the Grail quest -
far from being an irrelevant medieval legend - speaks directly to our div
ided modern world and to the deeper psychic tension between opposites with
in the human soul.\n\n\n\nRobert Matthews is a Jungian Analyst\, trained a
t the Research and Training Centre for Depth Psychology in Zurich accordin
g to C.G. Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz. He is in private practice in Ad
elaide and is the current President of the C G Jung Society of South Austr
alia. He is also a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education\, Adelaide U
niversity\, teaching classroom management and the application of neuroscie
nce in education. He has a PhD in theoretical physics and has recently pub
lished the book The Paradoxical Meeting of Depth Psychology and Physics: R
eflections on the Unification of Psyche and Matter. A discussion of this b
ook can be found in an interview with Laura London on Speaking of Jung.\n\
 n\n\nLearning objectives:\n\n\n\n\nExplain how Wolfram von Eschenbach’s
Parzival\, as a symbolic narrative of psychological transformation\, prese
nts the Grail quest as an inner journey from naive unconsciousness\, throu
gh failure and suffering\, toward a more integrated relationship between t
 hinking\, feeling\, action\, and compassion.\n\n\n\nApply Parzival’s sto
ry to contemporary experiences of division and spiritual hunger.\n\n\n\n\n
