SUMMARY:Gifts and Perils of Aging: Psychological Development During the Lat
 er Phase of Life
DESCRIPTION:Gifts and Perils of Aging: \nPsychological Development \nDuring
  the Later Phase of Life\nPresented by\nRobert Moradi\, MD\nlink to video\
 nSunday\, January 24\, 2021\, 4:00 - 6:00 pm PT\nThis program will also be
recorded and made available for free to anyone\, \nalong with a transcrip
t\, via a link on the Past Programs page of our website.\nWhile aging is n
ature’s mandate\, becoming an elder requires a conscious relationship wi
th one’s station in life where the horizon is closer and limitations of
the body are more palpable. Ideally\, the elder brings the wisdom gained t
hrough the journey of life to his/her own current physical and psychologic
al condition and relationships\, whereas the merely older is consumed by s
urvival and fear of death. In this presentation we will consider some of t
he challenges in working analytically with an older population\, including
how we\, as older analysts\, live with death\, find meaning in the aging
process itself\, and bring a conscious awareness of these issues into a mo
re intimate relationship to our work with patients. In other words\, how d
o we live with death and how do we bring death to the intimate container o
f the work with our older patients?\nLearning objectives: \nList three fac
tors which influence a therapist's capacity to work analytically with olde
r patients.\nDescribe countertransference issues that are common in worki
ng with an older population.\nDescribe how an older becomes an elder. \nRo
