 E \nThis presentation examined the ancient Egyptian myth of Osiris which c
 ontains three archetypal patterns that describe significant psychological
 developments. The first pattern refers to a move away from the cyclical fe
 rtility of nature to the eternal life of spirit. That development\, in Eri
 ch Neumann’s view\, initiated the change from matriarchy to patriarchy.
 The second archetypal pattern\, evident in the death\, dismemberment and r
 esurrection of Osiris\, parallels the process of individuation: an eclipse
  of ego-consciousness\; analysis of the various components of the psyche\;
  and the establishment of a conscious ego-Self axis. The third pattern is
 disclosed in the mummification of Osiris\, the original source for the alc
 hemical practice of creating the philosophers’ stone\, or the diamond bo
 dy\, which survives death.\nV. Walter Odajnyk\, PhD\, was a graduate of th
 e C.G. Jung Institute\, Zurich. He was a Board and Faculty member of the C
 .G. Jung Institute of New York and editor of Quadrant: Journal of the C.G.
  Jung Foundation for Analytical Psychology. He is also the author of Marxi
 sm and Existentialism\, Jung and Politics: The Political and Social Ideas
 of C.G. Jung\, Gathering the Light: A Jungian View of Meditation\, and Arc

 m\, Pacifica Graduate Institute\, and a supervising analyst associated wit
 h the C.G. Jung Study Center of Southern California. He will be deeply mis
