SUMMARY:Crouching Tiger\, Hidden Dragon: Eros and Power
DESCRIPTION:Crouching Tiger\, Hidden Dragon: Eros and Power\npresented by\n
 Chie Lee\, M.A.\nFriday\, April 18th\, 2003\n8:00pm\n\nDirector Ang Lee's
much honored film is a fable which describes the mythical world ofwu xia
—the heroes and heroines in the realm of Chinese martial arts. It is als
o a tale of the paradoxical nature in the struggle between eros and power\
, the masculine and the feminine\, Taoism and Confucianism. This presentat
ion is inspired by Ms. Lee's love of thesewu xiastories from her childhood
. It will explore the film's symbolic and psychological meaning\, grounded
in her personal journey and experience as a woman in the Chinese culture
and the impact of the patriarchy on the development of the feminine.\n\nCh
ie Lee\, M.A.\, MFCC\,is a Jungian analyst in private practice in West Los
Angeles. She was born in Shanghai\, and before emigrating to the United S
tates\, spent her first eighteen years in China\, Macao\, Hong Kong and Th
ailand. She is on faculty at the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles and is
a member of the editorial board of Psychological Perspectives.\n\nPart of
the 4-part weekly lecture series:  THE MOVING IMAGE:  A JUNGIAN PERSPEC
TIVE ON FILM\nThe most we can do is to dream the myth onwards and give it
a modern dress. ~ C.G.Jung\nMovies ensoul our lives. They coax us into the
imaginal realm where we participate in story and myth. At the movies we t
ravel the world\, journey through space\, fall in love\, witness murder an
d tragedy\, undergo breathtaking adventure and laugh with silliness and jo
 y. Much like dreams and active imagination\, movies allow the expression a
nd the experience of both personal and collective material. Movies carry u
s forward into myth in modern dress: The Moving Image.\n\nThis year\, the
C.G. Jung Club of Orange County presents our annual conference and lecture
series in a combined format to both interpret and\, perhaps more importan
tly\, experience the potential that is the moving image in film. Join us f
or a daylong event followed by three consecutive evening lectures\, and a
final meeting for informal discussion and community interchange. See you t
 here!
