The Final Break Between Freud and Jung

A Dramatic Reading
The Fall 1998 Programs will open with a dramatic reading of “The Parting of the Ways”, a work written by Dr.LionellCorbett on the selected Jung-Freud letters which show the disagreements and the bitterness as these two great pioneers held to their convictions and differences. The work is performed by three Jungian Analysts.
It is well know that Carl Jung began his psychoanalytic career as a favored pupil of Sigmund Freud. They became colleagues and close friends, but as Jung matured in his thinking, he found himself increasingly in disagreement with Freud leading to a final break in 1923. Jung’s wife, Emma, attempted to help the two men to reconcile but to no avail.
Lionell Corbett, Ph.D.is presently teaching at Pacifica Institute (Santa Barbara). He has great expertise in the life of Freud and his contributions to psychology. He is a Jungian Analyst and author of this work.
Marvin Spiegelman, Ph.D.is a well known lecturer and author with many books to his credit comparing Jung with other disciplines and religions. He is a Jungian Analyst with a private practice in Studio City, Calif.
Valerie McIlroy, LCSW is a Jungian Analyst and a member of the Board of Directors of the C.G. Jung Club of Orange County. She has a private practice in Newport Beach,Calif.
